MapleStory Universe Launches MSU Space and US$60,000 Vibe Camp Game Jam as Part of MSU 2.0 Rollout

MapleStory Universe, the blockchain-based extension of Nexon's MapleStory franchise, has opened MSU Space, a builder hub developed with AI game creation platform Verse8, and kicked off MapleStory Vibe Camp, a global game jam offering US$60,000 in NXPC prizes, the project announced on June 8 from Abu Dhabi. The Vibe Camp competition runs through June 29 and is open to builders worldwide, with participants able to access official MapleStory Universe assets, development tools and AI-assisted creation features through MSU Space to build and publish MapleStory-inspired games and experiences. Selected projects will receive recognition, rewards and potential opportunities for future ecosystem participation.

The launch marks the first major public activation of MSU 2.0, MapleStory Universe's next growth phase following its first year of live operations. The project said it surpassed 150 million cumulative on-chain transactions during that period and generated approximately 49.1 million NXPC, equivalent to US$31 million, in ecosystem revenue. MSU 2.0 is positioned to expand MapleStory from a single game environment into a broader platform supporting creation, distribution and monetization using the franchise's intellectual property.

Through MSU Space, builders can leverage MapleStory-themed characters, monsters, items, environments and lore, develop projects through natural language prompts, iterate on gameplay concepts and publish completed experiences directly via Verse8's platform. The initiative is designed to lower barriers to entry for creators and open the franchise's traditionally closed IP to a wider community of contributors.

Sun Young Hwang, Chief Executive Officer at Nexpace, said the first year showed that a large-scale game economy can operate on-chain, and that the next phase focuses on broadening participation in building it. "As AI continues to lower the barrier to game creation, the distinction between player and builder becomes less fixed, and MapleStory IP becomes the foundation that both groups create from and around," Hwang said. He added that both MapleStory Vibe Camp and MSU Space represent first steps toward that vision by lowering creation barriers and introducing new ways for communities to build with the legacy IP.
