Crypto Markets Brace for U.S. CPI and PPI Data as Inflation Print Looms This Week

Crypto markets are awaiting two U.S. inflation releases this week that could shape expectations for Federal Reserve policy and drive short-term volatility in digital assets. The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, followed by the Producer Price Index (PPI) report on Thursday, June 12.

Forecasts compiled by Trading Economics point to a month-on-month headline CPI increase of 0.5%, below the 0.6% rise recorded in April. On a yearly basis, headline CPI is projected to climb 4.2%, compared with 3.8% in the previous year. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, is expected to rise 0.3% month-on-month after a 0.4% gain in the prior month, with the annual core figure seen at 2.9%, up from April's 2.8%.

Attention will then shift to the PPI release. Headline PPI is forecast to increase 0.6% month-on-month, down from the prior reading of 1.4%. Core PPI is projected at 0.4%, compared with 0.6% previously. On an annual basis, Trading Economics data indicates that producer inflation pressures are expected to persist, with year-over-year increases for both CPI and PPI anticipated to come in higher than the previous release.

The upcoming prints come against a backdrop of weak sentiment across crypto markets, with traders watching for any signal that could influence the Fed's rate path. Inflation outcomes above expectations have historically been linked to tighter financial conditions, while softer readings have been associated with risk-on positioning in assets such as $BTC and $ETH. Market participants are awaiting the data to gauge the next directional move.
