The release follows weeks of internal warnings from Anthropic that the model could pose severe risks to global financial infrastructure, and it lands as the artificial intelligence firm has confidentially filed for a U.S. initial public offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission at a potential valuation of up to $1 trillion. Rival OpenAI has also confidentially filed for an IPO.

Crypto traders are positioning around the launch. Polymarket data shows an 84% chance that Anthropic releases the model on the day of publication. Market commentator The Milk Road cautioned that the drop could generate short-term FUD and price chop in digital assets, while characterizing the risk of a crypto hack as minimal.
